Kupendwa …. To Be Loved

Amy Kids and me 090_5414833405973172468_oMy heart is full to overflowing. We said goodby to our Kupendwa family Monday morning. It has been such a privilege and a blessing to have Amy Washington, her children Patrick and Safina, and her sister Deanna visit in our home over the weekend.

They were still sleeping yesterday morning when I slipped out to my quiet time spot on the porch. The tears came as I thanked God for the two little ones from Uganda, Africa … sleeping soundly upstairs in our home. I thanked God for Amy. Patrick and Safina are just two of many children who probably would not have survived had Amy not been obedient to God’s call.

The Swahili word, Kupendwa, means “to be loved”. Amy couldn’t have chosen a more perfect name for her ministry in Uganda. She gave an update last night at our church and I was just overcome. God’s passion for His people emanated from Amy as she spoke. I am thankful for her obedience to His call. I am blessed to know her.

It is our great privilege to help support this awesome ministry, both personally and through Susan’s Kids. Please take a moment to visit Amy’s website. You will surely be blessed … and just perhaps God may stir your heart to be a part of the great work He is doing through Amy and Kupendwa.

2016 Year End Update

Susan’s Kids now sends monthly support to a total of FIVE ministries. The Good Shepherd Children’s Home in Xela, Guatemala and Love Alive International in Rwanda, Africa are the two additional ministries we started helping financially in 2016. We also made one time donations to the Kennedy Home in Kinston, Team Expansion (for Josh Trueblood and Emilie Cooper), and Grace Point Community Church for help in missions work in Honduras.

Kupendwa Ministries – Uganda, Africa www.Kupendwa.org
2016 has been a year full of amazing joy, growth, change, heartache, and blessings! We have seen lives saved, babies born, families reunited, and relationships restored! We praise the LORD for all that He has done in so many lives! And we could not have done all of this without the faithful support from you, our supporters and donors! Each donation is invaluable and immensely appreciated! To those of you who consistently give on a regular basis, we want to say thank you so very much! This helps us wisely budget our funds and plan for the future!

Diamond Willow Ministries – Ft. Thompson, South Dakota www.d-w-m.org
As the year comes to a close, I am able to look back and see clearly all the ways God has worked in our community through this past year. It is because of your love, support and encouragement that Diamond Willow is able to have such an impact on our community. I live in a place where drugs and suicide are often what people choose as a way out – BUT – we know there is HOPE that can only be found in Jesus Christ! Thank you for allowing me and others on my team to be able to share that hope with the children and families we serve …

Agape Royal Ministries – India www.agaperoyalministries.org
Greetings from Agape Royal Ministries! The Lord has done amazing things throughout 2016. Thank you so much for your partnership in ministry. There are 249 children in care in our 14 child care homes, growing up to become responsible citizens. My wife Elsie and I visited our four homes in Andhra Pradesh and rejoiced in their accomplishments. One of the girls, Jyothsna, a senior in high school, was honored with a cash award for securing the highest marks. She wishes to become a doctor. Her life has been dramatically changed since she joined our home ten years ago.

Love Alive International – Rwanda, Africa www.lovealiveinternational.com
I sincerely thank you for your compassion for others, your love for the Lord, and your generous gifts to Love Alive International Inc. This is my favorite time of year in ministry as children are out of school, and we have 3 months packed with evangelistic activities with children and youth. Thank you immensely for choosing to be a part of this ministry. Your donation will be used in the best possible way to carry forth the ministry God has given us.

~ Laura Yockey

Good Shepherd Children’s Home – Xela, Guatemala – www.bchfamily.org/guatemala
The Good Shepherd Children’s Home is Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina’s affiliate orphanage in Xela, Guatemala. BCH established the orphanage in partnership with NC Baptist Men and Woman’s Missionary Union of NC (WMU NC). Full time Missionaries Roger and Vicki Grossman are passionate to see the people of Guatemala come to know Christ’s salvation. They have served in Guatemala for a number of years and oversee both the orphanage and medical clinic. We are excited to have little ones in Guatemala joining the Susan’s Kids family!

None of these things could have happened without your help. We thank you for your generosity and obedience to God. Please continue to pray for each and every one of “Susan’s Kids”.

“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed.” Proverbs 19:17

Love Alive International

We are excited to announce that in the month of April, Susan’s Kids started sending monthly support to yet another ministry – Love Alive International  in Rwanda, Africa.

We are in awe of how God opened doors for us to help so many amazing ministries.  Susan’s Kids now has little handprints in places like South Africa, Lesotho, Uganda, India, Guatemala, Honduras, Bosnia, South Dakota, Kinston, NC …. and now in Rwanda, Africa.

I first heard about Laura Yockey and Love Alive International from Holly and Jason Groe. Many of our readers will remember Jason and Holly. Jason was the Pastor of Cedar Branch Baptist Church in Jamesville, NC  several years ago and he is now Pastor of Poplar Grove Baptist Church in Cookeville, TN.

Laura Yockey is from Cookeville, TN – the same town where Jason and Holly live. She is the founder and director of Love Alive International and she began her work in Rwanda in January of 2013. We heard awesome reports from Jason and Holly regarding Laura’s ministry in Rwanda and the Lord has led us to be a part in what He is doing there!

We are so thankful to be able to send monthly support to this ministry and we look forward to what God is going to do through Laura’s work in Rwanda.

To God be the Glory!

Please check out Love Alive!

The Good Shepherd Children’s Home – Xela, Guatemala

Jesus loves the little children . . . all the children of the world.

We mentioned in our 2015 year end update for Susan’s Kids that in January of this year we started sending monthly support to The Good Shepherd Children’s Home in Xela, Guatemala. The orphanage was established in partnership with the NC Baptist Men and Women’s Missionary Union of North Carolina.  We are so happy to be able to send help to them.  We are so thankful for those of you who support Susan’s Kids.

We wanted to share a sweet picture from the Good Shepherd Children’s Home. Little Emilia was abandoned almost immediately after her birth.  We are thankful to hear that she is healthy and doing well at The Good Shepherd Children’s Home.   To learn more please go to www.orphanreach.org

He Works in Spite of Us . . . Looking Back at 2015

I have not made even one post to this News Site since last year this time. I have no excuse other than - “the busyness of life”.   My prayers for Susan’s Kids have not been as fervent as they used to be either.  I have no excuse – other than the “busyness of life”.  As I write these words, I realize that the “busyness of life”  is not an excuse at all. I apologize.   I pray that I will do a better job in 2016 of keeping you informed.

We met recently to discuss 2015 and to plan for 2016.  After our meeting, I realized that it didn’t matter to God whether I had updated the website or not.  This ministry is His and He will take care of it.  Donations have continued to come in all year.  Faithful partners … giving consistently month after month … enabled us to continue to send support to three amazing Holy Spirit ordained ministries to children.  We are so happy to be able to increase our monthly support to them  -  as well as to begin sending monthly support  to an additional ministry in 2016.

I asked Marvin Gurganus — the Founder of Susan’s Kids — to give me a quote for the 2015 Year End Letter to our Donors.  He began with -

As I look back at the results of 2015, it is very clear that God has a plan and He makes it happen in His timing. He makes things happen not because of us,  but sometimes in spite of us.

No, we really didn’t do much to promote Susan’s Kids  in 2015.  I didn’t even have the energy to update the website.  That didn’t seem to matter.  God continued to touch the hearts of His people.  They continued to give.  For that we are so thankful.  God’s blessings to each of you in 2016.

Susan’s Kids – 2015 Update

In 2015 God blessed us to be able to send monthly financial support to three wonderful ministries to children.   Because of your generosity in giving, we will be increasing our monthly support to each of them in 2016.  They have sent messages of thanks to each of you.  Please continue to pray for them!

Kupendwa Ministries – Uganda, Africa        www.Kupendwa.org

On behalf of myself as well as the hundreds of mothers, babies, and families touched by God’s work through Kupendwa, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the generous monthly donation that you give. Your monthly support has been crucial in allowing our ministry programs to continue growing and thriving for the Kingdom! I sincerely want to thank you for allowing Him to use you to impact lives and souls for eternity! You are more of a blessing than I could ever describe in words.

Sincerely ~

Amy Washington ~ Executive Director of Kupendwa Ministries

Agape Royal Ministries – India          www.agaperoyalministries.org

New Year Greetings from Agape Royal Ministries!  Susan’s Kids has been supporting our childcare efforts for several years now. There are 14 homes where we have about 300 kids in care. Many of them were from Hindu backgrounds and the Lord miraculously saved them while they were in our care. Susan’s Kids is investing in young lives for eternity. What a glory!  We appreciate you for your decision to increase support to Agape Royal Ministries. In addition, the Lord helped us establish a Bible College and 400 churches. Praise the Lord!  We are not doing this ministry alone, we are doing it with you and we are partners. What a blessing! We will keep praying for you, your families and your efforts. God bless!

Diamond Willow Ministries – Ft. Thompson, South Dakota          www.d-w-m.org

How do I begin to say thanks?  The words feel as if they will never express the fullness of the gratitude in my heart.  Because of Brothers and Sisters in Christ like you, children are coming to know the Name of Jesus.  Children right here in America who don’t know something as simple as the Christmas story, are learning about the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ through Diamond Willow Ministries.  The children are receiving meals daily at our Tokata Youth Center, as well as being fed spiritually and emotionally.  This year alone there were 14 baptisms! We are so grateful for what God is doing here. We know we cannot serve the people of the Crow Creek Reservation without you!  Your financial support through Susan’s Kids and especially your prayers, are changing lives around the world. There is freedom in Christ and we want the nations to know it!  So, although it will never sound like enough . . . thank you!  Thank you for partnering with Susan’s Kids and Diamond Willow Ministries as we continue “Serving One Another in Love.” (Galatians 5:13).

Something New and Exciting  for 2016 – The Good Shepherd Children’s Home

We began monthly support to a fourth ministry in January, 2016!  The Good Shepherd Children’s Home is Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina’s affiliate orphanage in Xela, Guatemala.  How wonderful to have little ones in Guatemala joining the Susan’s Kids family!  To God be the Glory!

My prayer continues to be for God to lead Susan’s Kids . . .  for little hearts to come to know His heart . . . for His Kingdom to come on this earth as it is in Heaven.  Thank you all for helping us be His hands and feet.

~ Debbie Roberson – Susan’s Mom

As I look back at the results of 2015, it is very clear that God has a plan and He makes it happen in His timing. He makes things happen not because of us, but sometimes in spite of us.   He has used Susan’s Kids to reach the lost, take care of the poor, and touch many hearts along the way. He does it in a way that only He can do.  We thank God for each and every one of you.   We thank you for being a part of His plan.  It is through your prayers and financial support that all of the great things listed above were made possible. We humbly thank you for answering the call that God placed on your hearts.  We look forward to the great things He has planned for 2016.

Looking Back at 2014 and Ahead to 2015

During my quiet time this morning, John 10:4 was a verse that God used to speak to my heart. Jesus Himself is speaking in John Chapter 10 . . . speaking about the Shepherd and his sheep. In verse 4, Jesus is speaking of Himself, our Great Shepherd as He says,

“When He has brought out all His own,  He goes on ahead of them and His sheep follow Him, because they know his voice. “

That verse spoke so sweetly to me. It was as if I heard Him say -

“Do not be afraid. I go before you always. Just follow me. “

It is so tremendously comforting to know that He is in control of our lives and that He is already in our tomorrows. He goes ahead of us – clearing the way for the amazing plan that He has for each of our lives.

As I think about the future of Susan’s Kids, I am thankful for that reminder. I am comforted by the promise that He goes ahead of us. I know that He has more for us to do.

Continue to pray for us as we seek His direction … all for HIS glory.

2014 Update

Changing Tomorrow Children’s Foundation – Wim and Hylien van Rensburg

Please pray for Wim, Hylien, and Wim, Jr. as they relocate to Australia and begin a new chapter in their lives. Wim and Hylien have shown Jesus to countless children in South Africa and Lesotho. Please continue to pray for these precious children. We are trusting God to bring about a great harvest from the many seeds that have been planted in each of their hearts.

Kupendwa Ministries – Uganda – Amy Washington

God continued to do remarkable things through Kupendwa Ministries in 2014 and we are so excited to report that we will be increasing our monthly support to Amy’s ministry in 2015.

Through the hospital ministry, they were able to reach out to over 200 mothers of all ages and provide birth kits, medical supplies, baby clothes, blankets, and other necessities for their deliveries and recoveries. Many of these mothers have given their lives to Jesus!

The Kids Club is also a wonderful part of Kupendwa Ministries. Hundreds of children participated. They played games, sang, danced, ate, and watched Bible stories brought to life through skits and dramas.

May of 2014 marked the opening of Kupendwa’s second Maternity Home which more than doubled their capacity! They are now housing 23 teenage mothers and their babies. The Maternity Homes provide a safe place to stay, food, education, counseling, mentoring, Bible Studies and more — but it is all for the main goal of reaching souls for Christ.

“. . . Please feel our heartfelt gratitude for all that God accomplished through YOUR love poured out upon us this year! May God BLESS you! With a grateful heart,
Amy Washington – Founder & Executive Director

Agape Royal Ministries – India – Abraham Thomas

Abraham Thomas came to the US in 2014 and we got to meet him face to face and hear firsthand about the wonderful things that God is doing in India. Through your support, we continue to help his ministry as they care for over 300 children in 16 homes.

Exciting News for 2015

Diamond Willow Ministries  - Annie Cooper Barr

Jamesville’s own Annie Cooper Barr is a part of this ministry on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation in Fort Thompson, South Dakota. Her primary work will be with the children and youth on the Reservation. We are so excited to partner with Annie as she shows the love of Jesus to these beautiful children.

We humbly thank God for each of you. God has used you and your generosity to carry out His work through Susan’s Kids. We ask for your continued prayers and financial support in 2015. Even though doors were closed in South Africa and Lesotho, God has opened new doors for us as we begin 2015!

We are  praying about two other ministry opportunities for 2015 – so please join us in prayer. One of the ministries is right here in North Carolina and the other one is an orphanage in Guatemala!

God still has much for us to do!  We can’t do it without your help. We thank God for the lives that have been changed. We stand amazed at what He has done. We give Him all the Glory!

Sowing Seed . . .

Mashide Village – Sowing Seed

Some days I wonder … Lord are we really doing what you want us to do? I want to know without a doubt that the children we support are receiving more than just food for their little bodies. My heart’s desire is for them to be filled with “spiritual food” … for them to  learn about Jesus and how much He loves them. I am always encouraged when I see evidence of this.
I am thankful today for Wim van Rensburg’s latest blog post.  It came just when my heart needed to be encouraged.  What a blessing to see how the children of Mashidi Village are being taught from God’s Word.  I pray you will take the time to read this little story and look at the sweet pictures. Join with me in being blessed by the reminder once again that little children a world away are learning about Jesus.

Looking Back at 2013

Changing Tomorrow Children’s Foundation

Wim and Hylien van Rensburg continued to feed and provide Christian Day Care for approximately 300 children in six villages in South Africa and Lesotho.
A lady by the name of Nthabiseng came on board with Wim and Hylien in 2013. She is in charge of the Day Care Outreach in Lesotho. She visits all of the Care Centers that CTCF supports and makes sure the kids learn about Jesus. She also teaches the ladies’ bible study in Matlakeng Village . . Wim is confident that God is going to use Nthabiseng in a big way in Lesotho.

Meriam, Nthabiseng, Hylien and Wim

Meriam, Nthabiseng, Hylien and Wim

*Leratong Village  – Leratong (South Africa) is the Care Center that costs the most to run and at the same time is providing for the least number of children. There are budget shortfalls in Lesotho, so Wim and Hylien may be left with only one choice – to close Leratong and apply those funds to the Care Centers in Lesotho. Please join us in praying for Wim and Hylien – for God to guide them in this decision – as they have not received Word yet that they should close the doors of this Day Care.

*Matlakeng Village – Matlakeng Day Care serves 75 children and once again the parents have asked if Wim would allow more little ones to attend in 2014. At present their budget is stretched to maximum, but if God allows increase they will most certainly consider this. A new teacher was added in 2013. Manatahli is now teaching the older kids while MeManako is responsible for the younger ones.

*Mashidi Village - MeManthabiseng continues to teach at the Mashidi Day Care. Wim says she is a born again Spirit filled woman who does not know the meaning of “slow down”. She has a great love for the children and for the Lord. She is a leader among the pre-school teachers in the area. Construction has started for a new Care Center in Mashidi which will provide for the 50 or so kids going there. Wim hopes to finish this project in 2014.

*KotsonKoaneng Village – MeMamapeshoane and the 55 children she teaches are making full use of their new building. Now equipped with tables, chairs, a blackboard and teaching materials, the kids are thriving and catching up with children in the other Day Care facilities.
*Utloanang Village –  Wim continues to wait for the Village Chief to give the go-ahead to start a new building. For now, we thank God that Wim is able to give the children two meals each day. MeSusan cares for 76 children in Utloanang who are currently crammed like sardines into a tiny little building. Why hasn’t the Chief given permission yet to start construction on a new building? This is life in Africa … sometimes the way things work over there make no sense to us. Please pray for the Chief to give permission for Wim to bless the children there with a new building.

*Futong Village – This is the most remote of the villages. Wim continues to rent a small building for them to use for now. The teacher there cares for 40 children. There is a great need for a new building in Futong – so God willing that will be a future project.

“To all who supported us in providing for our kids, a huge big

from the bottom of our hearts!!!

We pray that, as your donation made it possible for us to show God’s love to forgotten kids out in the middle of nowhere, God will make His love for you known more and more in your life every day!

We serve an awesome God and we praise Him for His provision!”

Amy Washington’s Visit

Amy speaking at Cedar Branch Church

Amy speaking at Cedar Branch Church

Well,  it came and went too quickly!  Amy Washington, her sweet little Amina, Amy’s Dad – John Washington, and her sister – Deanna, arrived shortly before church started Sunday night and left again Monday morning.  How thankful I am that they were willing to make the nine hour drive from Georgia to spend time with us.

Amy shared her heart and told us about Kupendwa Ministries and the work God is doing in Jinga, Uganda. She shared how God took her to Uganda … how God delivered sweet little Amina into her hands … how she now has six little ones she calls her own … how she started Kupendwa Ministries and the young women and babies that she cares for and shares Jesus with.

The story of Stella  and baby Hope captivated us all.  Stella was a young woman who thought that God hated her … a young woman sure that she had done too many bad things to be forgiven … a young woman who now knows Jesus and rejoices in the great love He has for her!   Amy’s story of the birth of Stella’s baby — who she named Hope – was an amazing example of how God still works MIRACLES today!

Amy’s little Amina is a miracle as well.  She was abandoned … left to die … malnourished and sick — but God had a plan.  He arranged for Amy to rescue Amina and she is a beautiful, healthy little four year old today!
